Fort Walton Beach is a city in Emerald Coast region of Florida, forty miles east of Pensacola. US 98 connects Fort Walton Beach with Pensacola and Panama City and also connects with nearby Destin. The Miracle Strip Parkway (US 98) travels along the seacoast and through Eglin Air Force Base, and the Eglin Parkway (Florida SR 85) links the city with Okaloosa Regional Airport.
Warm Gulf waters and a wide variety of recreational activities make Fort Walton Beach a population area for family vacations.
The Emerald Coast Science Center offers interactive science exhibits for children. The Air Force Armament Museum exhibits 29 static aircraft including B-52 and B-17 bombers, an SR-71A Blackbird spy plane, and F-16 jet fighter, a Soviet MiG 21 and a MOAB (Massive Ordinance Air Blast). The Gulfarium features the Living Sea, a glass-enclosed natural habitat for sharks, moray eels and sea turtles. Penguins, otters and alligators reside in separate exhibits. Live shows present the antics of dolphins and sea lions. Shows are given throughout the day.
